Merced County, CA (September 1, 2023) A Merced police officer was taken to a local hospital on Wednesday, according to the California Highway Patrol officer Eric Zuniga, after she was injured in a collision with an SUV. The collision took place at G Street and 18th Street, around 9:00 p.m.
The police officer was driving a 2020 Dodge Charger, traveling east on 18th Street. A 28-year-old man from Live Oak was driving south on G Street in a 2014 Jeep Cherokee. The Jeep hit the left rear of the police officer’s Dodge. The officer, age 31, was taken to a hospital for minor injuries sustained in the accident.

Merced Police Sgt. Nathan McKinnon didn’t release the officer’s name but said she has been with the department for a little over 2 years.
California Highway Patrol Officer Eric Zuniga said they aren’t sure if the officer involved in this crash was responding to a call or which vehicle had the right-of-way. They do know that drugs and alcohol were not a factor in this collision. The accident is still under investigation.
