Palo Alto, CA (June 3, 2024) It was 3:00 a.m. in Palo Alto when a vehicle driving along Highway 101 became disabled near San Antonio Road. As it sat on the highway, two other vehicles collided with it at approximately 3:00 a.m. on May 31st. The driver of the disabled vehicle did not survive the collision, according to the California Highway Patrol.
A red Hyundai SUV was heading along Highway 101, when for reasons unknown, the vehicle crashed into a light pole. The accident disabled the vehicle and the driver called for help, according to the CHP. As the driver sat in the SUV near San Antonio Road, waiting for authorities, he was hit by two other vehicles, officers said.
Emergency personnel arrived at the scene quickly and found the three vehicles, all damaged. Paramedics hurried to the SUV to see if anyone had been hurt. They found the driver unresponsive. Paramedics did everything they could to save the driver, but sadly, there was nothing more that they could do. With heavy hearts, they pronounced the driver of the SUV dead at the scene.
The drivers of the two other vehicles remained at the scene and cooperated with authorities following this fatal accident. Officers are still not sure what happened that morning on Highway 101. They gathered evidence at the scene and took statements from the two other drivers who were involved. The SUV had to be hauled from the scene and crews worked quickly to clear the highway of debris that was left behind.
