Lyon County, NV (June 10, 2024) A two-vehicle collision occurred in Lyon County on Monday morning, June 10th, and left one person with injuries. Officers reported that the accident occurred between two commercial vehicles on Interstate 80, near mile marker 60. It happened at 4:30 a.m. about 10 miles east of the town of Fernley, according to reports.
The sun had yet to rise over Lyon County on Monday morning as vehicles traveled along Interstate 80, their headlights lighting the way. Suddenly, for reasons still unknown, two commercial vehicles collided in the westbound lanes of the interstate. The impact left significant damage to both of the vehicles and left them blocking the westbound lanes of traffic.
Officers with the Nevada State Police Highway Patrol received the 911 call and hurried to the scene. Upon arrival, they found the two vehicles in the middle of the westbound lanes with major damage. Debris littered the roadway around the vehicles and traffic was blocked. Officers had to close the westbound lanes of Interstate 80 for several hours, according to reports. Paramedics hurried to the two vehicles and found one person with serious injuries. They called for a Careflight helicopter to come to the scene and quickly transport the victim to a local hospital to receive treatment.
Officers took their time walking around the scene and gathering evidence. They took statements from witnesses at the scene and are working to determine not only what caused this collision on Interstate 80, but also who was at fault. Tow trucks were called to remove the vehicles from the scene and crews readied their brooms to clear glass and debris from the interstate. The investigation is ongoing, but officers are determined to piece it all together.
