San Joaquin County, CA (May 30, 2024) A three-vehicle, head-on collision took place in San Joaquin County on Tuesday afternoon, May 28th. The accident tragically claimed one person’s life and left the community blanketed in sadness. It happened on Highway 12, near Guard Road, just after 4:00 p.m., according to reports. Two others sustained injuries in this collision, but are both expected to make full recoveries.
A silver Volkswagen Passat was driving along Highway 12, when for reasons still unknown, it drifted into oncoming traffic, according to the California Highway Patrol. The Volkswagen headed right for a blue Honda Accord and the driver had no time to react. The two vehicles slammed into each other, head-on. As the two vehicles collided, a silver Toyota Prius was traveling along Highway 12 and also had no time to react. The Prius crashed into the two other vehicles and went into the ditch on the side of the road.
The California Highwy Patrol arrived at the scene within minutes and found the three vehicles in the middle of the highway. Paramedics went from vehicle to vehicle to give aid to anyone in need. Sadly, they found the driver of the Volkswagen deceased inside their vehicle. Officers pronounced the driver dead at the scene and called for a coroner. The driver of the Honda had sustained serious, but non-life-threatening injuries in the collision while the driver of the Prius only had minor injuries.
Investigators began working the scene and reported that every single person involved in this accident was wearing their seat belt at the time of the collision. They also reported that the airbags in all three vehicles had deployed during the crash. They gathered evidence and took statements from those at the scene before calling for tow trucks to come remove the wrecked vehicles from the scene. Debris and glass had to be swept off the highway before traffic could resume, according to reports.
