Riverside, CA (September 13, 2024) A tragic accident occurred on the Riverside (91) Freeway on Thursday night, September 12th, 2024. A multi-vehicle collision occurred just before midnight and claimed one person’s life, officers reported.
According to police reports, a white Toyota Corolla, a tan Chevrolet Tahoe and a Subaru were traveling along the eastbound lanes of the Riverside (91) Freeway on Thursday night. At the Pierce Street intersection, the three vehicles suddenly collided. The cause of the collision is still unknown, but officers said 911 calls began coming in around 11:50 p.m.
The California Highway Patrol arrived at the scene and found the three damaged vehicles blocking a good portion of the eastbound Freeway. They issued a SigAlert and closed a section of the freeway. They found one person unresponsive and began performing life-saving treatment. Unfortunately, the person succumbed to their injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. It is unknown at the time if anyone was injured in this collision.

The scene was thoroughly investigated and the freeway remained closed for several hours. Tow trucks removed the three damaged vehicles from the roadway and crews worked for hours removing the debris and glass from the roadway. Officers are working to determine what caused this fatal accident on the Riverside (91) Freeway. They are also determined to uncover who was responsible for this collision.
Update: The victim has been identified as Justin Winans, a 25-year-old from Chino.
