One Killed, One Critically Injured In Apple Valley Crash On Highway 18

4 injured in San Bruno rollover collision on 280 Freeway.

Apple Valley, CA (May 26, 2024) A traumatic two-vehicle collision took place on Highway 18 in Apple Valley on Saturday, May 25th, claiming a woman’s life. Another person was critically injured in the collision and airlifted to a trauma center, according to reports. It happened near Milpas Drive just minutes before 7:00 a.m.

A silver 2015 Toyota Rav4 was traveling north on Milpas Drive, while a white Dodge Ram 1500 was heading east on Highway 18. For reasons still unknown, the two vehicles collided at the intersection, according to police officers. The Dodge pickup truck was sent rolling following the initial collision with the SUV, and finally came to a stop on its roof. The silver SUV sustained extreme damage to the driver’s side and ended up on the side of the highway in a heap of wrecked metal.

The Apple Valley Fire Protection District rushed to the scene and found the two vehicles, both completely smashed, and stopped several hundred feet away from each other. Debris and glass littered the road in every direction and pieces of the vehicles were strewn about the scene. Matt Downland, Battalion Chief for the Apple Valley Fire Protection District said they found four victims following the collision. Sadly, one of the victims had been killed during the accident and was pronounced dead at the scene. One of the victims had sustained life-threatening injuries in the collision. Firefighters requested a medical helicopter from Mercy Air to come to the scene and transport the victim to a local trauma center for further treatment. The two people inside the Dodge pickup sustained minor injuries and were treated at the scene by paramedics, reports indicated.

Officers had to close Highway 18 between Sierra Palona and Milpas as they investigated the accident and cleaned the scene. Officers continue to work to determine what caused this awful two-vehicle collision and who was at fault. Once they finished investigating the scene, workers began cleaning up all of the debris, glass and car parts that were found in every direction on the highway.
