Indio, CA (July 14, 2024) A two-vehicle collision in Indio claimed a person’s life on Sunday morning and left two others injured. The traumatic collision occurred at the intersection of Monroe Street and Sonny Bono Memorial (10) Freeway, officers reported.
Darkness covered the freeway at 2:40 in the morning on Sunday, July 14th, as motorists made their way through Indio. Suddenly, for reasons that are still unknown, two vehicles collided on the Sonny Bono Memorial (10) Freeway. The collision left the two damaged vehicles in the middle of the roadway and sent debris flying in every direction.
Officers with the California Highway Patrol arrived at the scene along with the Riverside County Fire Department. They found the two damaged vehicles in the middle of the dark freeway with major damage. They hurried to see if anyone inside the vehicles needed medical attention. Unfortunately, one person had been killed in the accident and was pronounced dead at the scene by authorities. Two others were found with moderate, non-life-threatening injures and were taken to a local hospital by ambulance to receive treatment.
Officers are working diligently to gather evidence and determine not only what caused this fatal collision on the Sonny Bono Memorial (10) Freeway, but also who was at fault. The vehicles had to be removed from the scene by tow trucks and crews worked for hours to clean glass and debris from the roadway so motorists could continue traveling. The California Highway Patrol is leading this investigation and are determined to piece together exactly what transpired that morning in Indio.
