An older-model, blue Chevrolet pickup truck was traveling along the Richvale Highway in Butte County. At the same time, a white Ford F-150 was also headed down the highway. Suddenly, and for reasons still unknown, the two pickups collided in the roadway. The force from the collision sent both vehicles into the ditch, just before 7:00 a.m, reports indicated. The sounds of metal colliding and tired squealing were suddenly replaced with silence as the two vehicles came to a stop in the ditch on the side of the highway.

The California Highway Patrol arrived at the scene and found the two pickups in the ditch, both with damage from the accident. They discovered one person in critical condition and began performing CPR on the victim.
