San Jose, CA (April 24, 2024) An afternoon drive on the Interstate 280 Freeway in San Jose took a turn for motorists on Tuesday, April 23rd. At least two vehicles were involved in a collision that left one person with serious injuries, officers reported. The accident occurred just after 2:00 p.m., near Leigh Avenue.
Traffic flowed along southbound Interstate 280 on Tuesday afternoon, just as it did every afternoon. At approximately 2:03 p.m., a gray Toyota 4Runner SUV slammed into another vehicle on the freeway. The Toyota then crashed into the center divider guardrail. The second vehicle came to a stop in lanes No. 3 and 4 of the freeway, blocking traffic.
Emergency personnel hurried to the scene and found both vehicles with moderate body damage, reports indicated. Paramedics checked the two vehicles for occupants with injuries and found one person who had been seriously injured in the accident. The victim was taken to a local hospital to receive medical attention.
Officers spoke with witnesses and gathered evidence at the scene to determine what caused this collision and who was at fault. The Toyota had to be removed from the scene by a tow truck, officers said. Crews cleared the freeway of debris before reopening the lanes.
