Piedmont, CA (July 30, 2024) The community of Piedmont was surprised to learn about a collision that occurred during a police pursuit. The collision left a Piedmont Police Officer with injuries, according to reports. It all happened on Wildwood Avenue on Monday morning, and officers are still looking for the suspect.
Police officers were looking for a stolen Chevy Suburban on Monday morning that was said to be entering Piedmont. Officers located the stolen vehicle and attempted to stop it, according to reports. However, the driver of the Chevy refused to stop and, instead, sped past the patrol cars. Suddenly, he hit the brakes and put the vehicle into reverse until he smashed into one of the patrol vehicles. He hit it with such force that the airbags inside the patrol vehicle deployed and one of the officers inside was injured. The driver then hit the gas and fled on Wildwood Avenue.
Shortly after, officers located the Suburban on the 300 block of Wildwood Avenue. The vehicle was empty and witnesses reported seeing the driver get out and run down into a ravine on foot. Officers are still looking for the suspect and are asking anyone with information to contact the Piedmont Police Department at 510-420-3000.
Paramedics were called to the scene and transported the injured police officer to a local hospital to receive treatment for the injuries they received at the scene. However, the injuries were said to be non-life-threatening and the officer is expected to make a full recovery.
