San Jacinto, CA (June 24, 2024) The community of San Jacinto was shocked as news spread of a hit-and-run collision in their town on Saturday night. Minutes after 10:00 p.m., a two-vehicle collision left one person in critical condition and left police officers searching for the hit-and-run driver responsible. It happened at the intersection of Old Mountain Avenue and Ramona Expressway, officers reported.
It was dark outside as vehicles traveled through San Jacinto, headlights illuminating the way. A Silver Chevrolet was heading east on the Ramona Expressway as a blue Kia quickly came up behind them. Reports indicated that the Kia was speeding along the expressway and erratically passing vehicles in the westbound lane. Sgt. Christopher Loucks told City News Service that the Kia tried to pass the Chevrolet, but ended up hitting the vehicle, instead. The force caused the Chevy to go off the road where it began to roll. It finally came to a stop, leaving the driver with critical injuries, according to reports. The driver of the Kia, however, fled the scene.
Emergency personnel arrived at the scene and found the Chevy several feet from the roadway. Riverside County Sheriff’s Department Deputies hurried off the road and towards the Chevy to help the driver. They found the driver with critical injuries, reports indicated. Paramedics rushed the victim to a nearby hospital, via ambulance, to receive treatment. They are currently listed in stable condition, officers reported.
Deputies closed the Ramona Expressway from East Esplanade to Old Mountain Avenue as they investigated the accident and cleaned up the scene.
Update: The driver of the Kia turned himself in on June 23. Charles Edgar Bidinger III, 38, has been charged with hit-and-run resulting in great bodily injury. He is set to make his first court appearance at the Banning Justice Center on the afternoon of June 26.
