The accident occurred early in the morning, or late at night, whichever way you choose to look at it. Most of the world was sleeping and darkness covered the freeway as vehicles drove. For reasons that are still unknown to investigators, three vehicles collided on the Golden State (5) Freeway. One of the vehicles involved was a big rig hauling a trailer. A pickup truck and a sedan were also involved, according to reports. The sedan ended up smashed behind the pickup truck and the big rig following the crash. The California Highway Patrol hurried to the scene in those early morning hours. Flashing lights illuminated the dark sky as they headed towards their destination. Upon arrival, they found the three vehicles together with significant damage. Paramedics arrived and quickly searched vehicles for anyone in need of medical attention. They found the driver of the sedan, identified as Rodriguez, unresponsive, on the ground beside the vehicle. Sadly, nothing could be done as the victim had already succumbed to their injuries. With heavy hearts, authorities pronounced the victim dead at the scene and gently placed a tarp over the body.
Officers with the CHP released a SigAlert for every lane going northbound on the Golden State (5) Freeway, except for the fast lane, officers said. They gathered as much evidence as they could find and spoke to people who were involved as well as those who witnessed the awful collision. They are still not sure what caused this fatal three-vehicle accident, but are working diligently to not only determine the cause, but also the fault.
