Los Angeles, CA (March 10, 2024) An intersection in the Baldwin Hills neighborhood known for speeding, was the scene of a multi-vehicle collision that claimed two lives on Saturday. 52-year-old David Coleman II and 23-year-old Karrington Coleman were both killed in this accident. It was minutes before 3:00 p.m. on March 9th when a car collided with several vehicles at the intersection of Coliseum Street and S. La Brea Avenue. Sadly, two people lost their lives in this deadly collision, according to officers.
Officers reported that a Mercedes Benz was speeding through the intersection, headed north on S. La Brea Avenue when the driver lost control. The car swerved into the center median and then crashed into a vehicle in the left turn lane before flipping. As the Mercedes flipped, it struck at least two other vehicles, officers reported. The Mercedes landed on its roof in the middle of the intersection with pieces of the vehicle, including a door, thrown around the scene.
Emergency crews hurried to the scene where they found multiple damaged vehicles. Paramedics rushed to the upside down Mercedes Benz and found the driver and the passenger, later identified as Colman II and Karrington Coleman, with life-threatening injuries. They were both pronounced dead at the scene.
Bob Hunt lives in the Baldwin Hills neighborhood near the intersection where the collision occurred. He told Fox 11 News, “The intersection is notorious for speeding.” He said it is a dangerous intersection and multiple accidents have occurred there due to people driving at high speeds.
