Trinity County, CA (September 11, 2024) Two people were injured in a collision on Highway 99 in Trinity County on Wednesday morning, September 11th. The accident involved a logging truck and happened just before 7:00 a.m. Jolene Eye and Carmen Busbee both sustained serious injuries in the accident.
A 2011 Perbilt logging truck, driven by Danny Milholland, was heading west on Highway 299, early on Wednesday morning. At the same time, A 2017 Hyundai Sonata, driven by Jolene Eye, was approaching the truck while heading east on Highway 299. Suddenly, the logging truck leaned and then overturned, sending logs rolling all over the roadway. Jolene Eye tried to steer her vehicle around the logs, but there were too many of them. The rolling logs hit the Hyundai and punched the car off the roadway and down a steep embankment, according to reports.
The California Highway Patrol arrived at the scene and found the Hyundai about 20 feet down the embankment, just south of Highway 299. They discovered that Eye and her passenger, Carmen Busbee, had both been seriously injured in the collision. Paramedics rushed both victims to Mercy Medical Center In Redding to receive treatment.
Officers had to close the highway for nearly 4 hours as they investigated the accident and cleaned up the scene, including the logs. Investigators do not believe that drugs or alcohol played a role in this collision on Highway 299. However, they do believe that speed was a factor, reports indicated.
