Apple Valley, CA (July 25, 2024) The community of Apple Valley was shocked to learn about a collision that left one man seriously injured. The two-vehicle accident occurred on Wednesday morning around 8:00 a.m. at the intersection of Cayuga Road and Kiowa Road.
It all started when a dog entered the roadway. Motorists went out of their way to avoid hitting the animal on their morning commute that day. In an attempt to avoid the dog at the intersection of Cayuga Road and Kiowa Road, a white Chevy S10 swerved. As it swerved, a burgundy Nissan Frontier had no time to stop or avoid the Chevy and the two vehicles collided. Traffic began to back up at the intersection, causing significant delays.
Officers arrived at the scene within minutes and found the two vehicles in the middle of the intersection, both badly damaged. They found the driver of the Chevy trapped inside his vehicle, according to reports. Officers worked quickly to extricate the victim before placing him on a stretcher. Paramedics loaded him into an ambulance and transported him to St. Mary’s Medical Center where he remains in critical condition.
The intersection of Cayuga Road and Kiowa Road were closed for two hours as officers investigated the scene. Crews cleaned up the mess of glass and debris that littered the intersection following the collision, allowing motorists to resume their morning commutes. Officers want to remind drivers to stay alert and be prepared to stop if you see other vehicles braking in front of you.
