Arvin, CA (August 6, 2024) Sadness swept through the town of Arvin, following a fatal collision on Friday morning, August 2nd. A 40-year-old Arvin man was the passenger in one of the vehicles. Sadly, he did not survive the collision, according to reports. Officers stated that several others sustained injuries in this collision. It all happened at the intersection of Herring Road and South Edison Road at approximately 5:45 a.m.
It was still dark at 5:45 a.m. on Friday, August 2nd, as a 2007 Toyota Corolla, driving by a 24-year-old man, headed south on South Edison Road. At the same time, a 2023 Toyota Tacoma was traveling west on Herring Road, at approximately 55 miles per hour. The driver of the Corolla slowed down at the stop sign, but did not come to a complete stop, officers reported. He continued into the intersection and was struck by the Tacoma. The Tacoma slammed into the driver’s side of the vehicle, according to reports. Both vehicles were left with major damage following the collision.
Emergency crews quickly arrived at the scene and found the vehicles in the middle of the intersection, badly damaged. Paramedics arrived and began checking for anyone who was injured in the collision. Reports indicated that they found several people with injuries ranging from minor to moderate. One victim, a 40-year-old man, sustained life-threatening injuries in the crash. He had been riding in the left passenger seat at the time of the accident. Paramedics rushed him to Kern Medical, but he sadly passed away later that day, according to reports.

Officers began thoroughly investigating the scene and took statements from those involved. They determined that drugs and alcohol were not factors in this collision. They are working to better understand what exactly happened at this Arvin intersection. Following the investigation, tow trucks had to remove the two damaged vehicles from the roadway and crews worked as quickly as they could to remove the glass and debris from the intersection.
