The accident took place around 8:15 a.m. at the intersection of South Butter Avenue and West Jayne Avenue, according to reports. It happened east of the Interstate 5 Freeway, the California Highway Patrol said.

The impact sent the Chevy Malibu roughly 30 feet off the roadway. The damage to the Malibu left the driver pinned inside the vehicle. The other vehicle involved remained on the roadway with major damage, according to reports from the scene.
California Highway Patrol officers were the first ones on the scene and quickly checked the vehicles for injured people. They found a man trapped inside the Chevy Malibu and had to use special tools to extricate the victim. Paramedics arrived at the scene moments later and placed the injured person on a stretcher. He was loaded into an ambulance and taken to a local hospital to receive treatment for serious injuries, officers reported.
Detectives gathered as much evidence as they could find at the scene and took statements from witnesses. They are working to determine what caused this two-vehicle collision in Coalinga, as well as who is responsible. A tow truck was called to remove the Chevy Malibu from the scene and crews worked to clean up the glass and debris that had been left behind.
