Wrong-Way Crash On I-280 In Daly City Claims Lives of Cornelio Soco & Anthony Pacheco

Head-on crash seriously injured two on SR-330 in Running Springs.

Daly City, CA (January 9, 2024) A crash on Interstate 280 in Daly City claimed the lives of two men on Monday, January 8th.  33-year-old Cornelio Cifuentes Soco and 53-year-old Anthony Pacheco were both fatally injured in this collision. The California Highway Patrol said that Pacheco had been driving the wrong-way on the interstate, causing the collision. California Highway Patrol Public Information Officer Mark Andrews said that the fatal collision occurred around 2:42 a.m., south of John Daly Boulevard.

A Toyota Corolla, driven by 53-year-old Pacheco, was traveling north in the southbound lanes of the Interstate 280, authorities said. A Toyota Previa minivan, driven by 33-year-old Soco, was driving north at the same time and the two vehicles collided, head-on.

Pacheco was killed in the collision and pronounced dead by emergency personnel at the scene. Soco, however, was still alive when paramedics arrived, but had sustained life-threatening injuries. He was rushed to a local hospital, via ambulance, where he later died from his injuries.

Authorities said they are still uncertain as to what exactly caused Pacheco to drive the wrong way on Interstate 280. While they do not know if drugs or alcohol were a factor at this time, they continue to investigate in an attempt to determine exactly what happened on Interstate 280 that cost these two men their lives.
