1 Injured, 1 Arrested In DUI Hit-And-Run In Chico

DUI driver suspected in head-on crash on Interstate 80 in Placer County.

Chico, CA (November 11, 2023) One person was injured on Friday afternoon and another was arrested following a collision that became a hit-and-run in Chico. The Chico Police Department said the accident occurred at approximately 4:15 p.m. near the intersection of Bruce Road and State Highway 32 in East Chico.

Police officers were en route to a collision on Friday afternoon when witnesses began reporting that one of the involved vehicles was leaving the scene. The suspect drove their vehicle about half a mile from the scene, then got out of the vehicle and fled on foot into a nearby field, leaving the vehicle behind.

Police arrived at the scene and chased the suspect through the field where he was caught and placed under arrest. Officers said the 35-year-old Sacramento resident was on active DUI probation for prior conviction. He was taken into custody on charges of hit-and-run causing an injury as well as DUI causing an injury.

The driver of the other vehicle involved in the collision sustained non-life-threatening injuries in this collision, according to police officers. They were taken to a local hospital to receive treatment.

Crews cleared the scene and investigators are trying to figure out what exactly happened at this east Chico intersection on Friday afternoon.
