Yuba City, CA (June 5, 2024) The community of Yuba City was saddened as news spread of a man killed by a drunk driver. 27-year-old Bryan Rodriguez-Duran tragically and senselessly lost his life on Sunday evening, June 2nd. The fatal collision occurred on Highway 20 at approximately 8:42 p.m. and left a 4-year-old with minor injuries and six others with more severe injuries, according to reports.
A white Honda Crosstour was heading east on Highway 20 on Sunday evening, June 2nd, when the vehicle ran a stop sign and began heading east in the westbound lane of the highway. A Ford F-150 pickup truck was traveling heading west on Highway 20 and had no time to react. The two vehicles collided, head-on, not too far from El Margarita Road. Debris and glass were thrown in every direction, littering the highway. The two vehicles sustained major damage, according to reports.

The Yuba City Police Department quickly arrived at the scene and found the two vehicles in the middle of the roadway with severe damage. They hurried to check the vehicles to determine if anyone needed medical attention. Officers reported that they found six people inside the Ford F-150 with significant injuries. All six were taken to Adventist Rideout Hospital and Sutter Roseville Hospital. One victim, Rodriguez-Duran, had sustained life-threatening injuries in the accident. Emergency personnel did everything they could, but unfortunately, his injuries were too severe. He was pronounced dead at the hospital, according to reports.
The driver of the Honda, Chloe Tokuno-Fraley, was suspected of driving under the influence of alcohol, officers said. A 4-year-old passenger was also in the vehicle with her and both were treated fro non-life-threatening injuries.
Officers investigated the scene to determine exactly what happened at that Yuba City intersection before calling tow trucks to come and remove the vehicles. Crews worked to remove the glass and debris from the roadway so traffic could resume.
