Denelle Hargrove Arrested For DUI After Hitting Marissa Pena

1 injured, 1 arrested in Santa Cruz County DUI crash

Weaverville, CA (September 15, 2023) Denelle Hargrove was arrested for driving under the influence after she hit a pedestrian in Weaverville. The California Highway Patrol said the accident occurred around 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 14th.

Officers were called to what was initially a hit-and-run on Highway 299, near Ransom Road. Witnesses told California Highway Patrol officers that a blue Chevrolet Money Carlo hit someone on the shoulder of the highway. They said the driver drove off after the accident, but the car was seen going to a nearby Holiday Market. The driver parked and went into the grocery store, according to witnesses.

The pedestrian, identified as Marissa Pena, age 28, from Antioch, sustained life-threatening injuries. Emergency crews at the scene took her to Trinity General Hospital where she was transferred to Mercy Medical Center in Redding.

It was determined by officers that 64-year-old Hargrove was, in fact, driving under the influence of alcohol. Officers arrested her for felony driving under the influence, felony hit-and-run causing injury, and causing injury to another, according to the California Highway Patrol.
