DUI driver kills one, injures eight on Byron Highway
BYRON, CA (June 17, 2022) – A suspected DUI driver on Byron Highway was arrested Wednesday for crashing into a Chevrolet Suburban and killing one passenger while injuring eight others.
Mercury News reports that a driver in an Acura sedan was heading south on Byron Highway when it crossed a double yellow line and collided with the Chevrolet. Both vehicles struck telephone poles as a result of the crash.
There were nine passengers in the Chevrolet: one person was killed, eight suffered moderate injuries, and four were taken to the hospital.
The driver of the Acura sustained minor injuries and was taken into custody by California Highway Patrol officers.
The accident occurred around 5:40 p.m. on Camino Diablo Road.
