Modesto, CA (July 16, 2024) On Sunday, July 14, a tragic collision occurred that left one person deceased.
At about 5:30 a.m., a 37-year-old Modesto man was driving westbound on West Hatch Road. He was in a Chevrolet Traverse. Suddenly, he collided with a parked Toyota Prius and fled the scene.
MPD found the man and arrested him for gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated, DUI with injuries, hit and run, and driving without a license.
When emergency crews responded to the scene, they discovered that two men had been inside the Prius at the time of the crash. One of them, a 52-year-old named Jose Reyes, was tragically pronounced dead at the scene.
It’s unclear if the other Prius occupant sustained injuries. An investigation is ongoing.
