Reno, NV (April 7, 2024) An early morning crash in Reno, Nevada claimed the life of one person on Saturday, April 6th. The tragic, two-vehicle accident took place at the intersection of Peckham Lane and Kietzke Lane right around 4:30 a.m., according to police officers. The second vehicle’s occupants jumped out of the car and fled the scene following the collision, officers reported.
It was still dark in Reno as the clock ticked closer to 4:30 a.m. Two vehicles approached the intersection of Peckham Lane and Kietzke Lane, their headlights illuminating the intersection. Suddenly, one of the cars slammed into the other vehicle in the middle of the intersection. Following initial investigations, officers believe that drugs or alcohol played a role in this fatal accident.
Emergency crews arrived at the dark intersection and found two vehicles with severe damage. One of the vehicles was unoccupied as it sat in the middle of the intersection, doors left open. The other vehicle had one occupant, the driver. Paramedics rushed to the driver, who was unresponsive. They began life-saving measures, but sadly, the victim succumbed to their injuries and were pronounced dead at the scene. As paramedics awaited the arrival of the coroner, police officers began searching for the occupants of the second vehicle.
The suspects had fled on foot, so officers knew they couldn’t have gotten far. After a while of searching, they located the second vehicle’s occupants. The driver, 18-year-old Elmer Rueda-Linares, was taken into custody. Officers believe that he was impaired at the time of the collision, causing this fatal accident.
The Reno Police Department Major Accident Investigation Team (M.A.I.T.) is leading the investigation into this deadly crash to determine what exactly happened. Crews had to clear debris and glass from the intersection and tow trucks were called to the scene to remove the damaged vehicles.
