San Diego, CA (November 20, 2023) A pedestrian was seriously injured on Sunday evening , November 19th, after being struck by a sedan in the Hillcrest area of San Diego. The accident occurred in the 1000 block of University Avenue at approximately 8:41 p.m., according to the San Diego Police Department.
According to reports, a 35-year-old man was driving a silver 2011 Mercedes-Benz E350 west on University Avenue. At the same time, a 33-year-old man was walking west on the same road, straddling the No. 1 and No. 2 lanes, according to Officer John Buttle of the San Diego Police Department. That’s when the vehicle hit the pedestrian.

The driver pulled over and got out of his vehicle, according to police officers. Two witnesses told authorities that they watched the man run away and they chased him. They finally caught up to him and walked him back to the scene, talking to him and encouraging him to stay along the way.
Emergency crews arrived at the scene and found the pedestrian lying in the road. Paramedics loaded him into an ambulance and rushed him to a local hospital with a skull fracture and brain bleed, according to Officer Buttle.
The driver of the Mercedes-Benz was arrested on suspicion of felony hit-and-run and also for driving under the influence, according to police officers. The San Diego Police Department Traffic Investigation Unit are leading the investigation for this accident that occurred on University Avenue in the Hillcrest area of San Diego on Sunday, November 19th.
