Oroville, CA (September 20, 2023) Rawinder Kandola was arrested on Tuesday morning for a DUI while trying to flee from officers, according to the Oroville Police Department. Officers reported that Kandola was driving at high speeds with “wanton disregard.”
It all started around 12:15 a.m. on Tuesday when an Oroville police officer was in the area of Oro Dam Boulevard and Feather River Boulevard, patrolling. The officer saw a Toyota sedan, driven by Rwinder Kandola, leave a parking lot and nearly hit the curb in the opposite lane. The driver then hit the gas pedal and sped away, officers said.

Kandola didn’t stop for the officer, but instead continued speeding away, eratically. The officer said he ran through several red lights and then, about a mile down the road, he lost control and rear-ended an SUV near Feather River Boulevard and Golden Dedger Drive. Kandola then hit a small tree and damaged nearby property.
The person in the SUV he hit sustained minor injuries and their vehicle was damaged.
Officers at that scene held Kandola at gunpoint and instructed him to raise his hands. Officers said he failed to comply and continued to move around inside the vehicle. The solo officer called for backup and waited until other police officers arrived at the scene before approaching Kandola. He was arrested and booked into the Butte County Jail for driving under the influence and fleeing peace officers.
Both vehicles had to be towed from the scene, according to the Oroville Police Department.
