Las Vegas, Nevada (January 9, 2024) Rebecca Post and her two children were tragically killed by a drunk driver on January 7th near Grand Cadence Drive and Lake Mead Parkway in Las Vegas. Authorities responded to the accident just before 6:00 p.m.
Post was driving a black Hyundai sedan with her two sons in the car with her, officers reported. Their vehicle was hit by a Ram 1500 who was intoxicated at the time of the collision.
Henderson firefighters and paramedics responded to the accident and found a man, obviously upset, pointing to the intersection. He told officers that his wife and children were in the vehicle that had been hit.
Officers said the driver of the Ram, identified as 36-year-old Darryl Smith, stumbled out of his truck following the accident. He walked to an ambulance and emergency crews said he smelled of alcohol. He later admitted that he had been drinking before getting behind the wheel. He told officers that he had “a pretty good amount,” and admitted to drinking 3 glasses of wine and cough syrup, according to officers.

Initial investigation determined that Post was stopped at a red light and a BMW was stopped in front of her. Smith came up behind them in his Ram 1500 pickup and didn’t stop or even slow down. He slammed into the back of Post’s vehicle, causing it to hit the back of the BMW. Officers said the pickup then crashed into another truck that was in the next lane. Post’s vehicle sustained major rear-end and front damage in the accident.
Paramedics rushed to help Post and her children, but sadly found that all 3 had been killed in the collision.
The occupants of the BMW sustained injuries and were taken to a local hospital for treatment, according to police officers.
Smith was taken into custody and booked into the Henderson Detention Center on DUI charges and reckless driving charges. He may face more charges, as well, according to authorities.
