SANTA CLARA, CALIFORNIA (JULY 19, 2023): 51-year-old Santa Clara Correctional Deputy Arturo Romero has died after an intoxicated driver collided with his vehicle on Highway 87 early Sunday morning. According to the California Highway Patrol, a 26-year-old intoxicated driver of a Toyota Sienna veered into the lane of Romero while driving the wrong way on the highway near downtown San Jose. The crash occurred at approximately 4:50 a.m., while Romero was on his way home from work.

Deputy Romero died upon impact with the vehicle. He is remembered by his dedicated service and community impact.
The suspect remains unidentified suffered moderate injuries. He is currently in custody.
