Stephen James Kritz killed in San Luis Obispo DUI crash

SAN LUIS OBISPO, CA (August 2, 2022) – Stephen James Kritz, 64, of San Luis Obispo, was identified as the victim in a DUI crash that occurred on Tank Farm Road on Saturday.

According to KSBY, a two-vehicle crash occurred just before 8:15 a.m. Kritz was in a vehicle heading westbound on Tank Farm Road when he was struck head-on by David Downs, 62, of Morro Bay.

Downs, who was under the influence of drugs, crossed into the opposing traffic’s lane and killed Stephen James Kritz.

Downs was arrested on multiple charges, including driving under the influence, gross vehicular manslaughter, and driving under the influence causing injury or death.

Authorities are asking witnesses or anyone who might have additional information on the crash to call the CHP at (805) 594-9700 and ask for Officer Banks.
