Sylmar, CA (August 11, 2023) The collision occurred on the northbound side of the 5 Freeway, close to the 14 Freeway interchange. The Caliornia Highway Patrol said the accident took place a little before 1:00 a.m. on Friday morning.

The 2-vehicle crash included one vehicle consisting a family and another vehicle with only the driver in the vehicle. The family consisted of a mother and father and their 2-year-old child. The 2-year-old was transported to a local hospital in critical condition. It is speculated that the child was thrown from the vehicle during the collision, but this is being investigated.
The driver of the second car was uninjured. He was, however, arrested for suspicion of driving under the influence.
