Castaic, CA (July 3, 2024) The community of Castaic is waking up to tragic news this morning, following a traumatic, fiery collision on Interstate 5. Three people lost their lives and another was seriously injured, according to police reports. The tragic accident took place at approximately 12:30 a.m., on The Old Road, near Parker Road, according to California Highway Patrol Officer Sergio Garcia. The driver of the vehicle was placed under arrested for DUI.
It was the middle of the night in Castaic as a woman was driving while intoxicated, according to reports. As the vehicle headed along The Old Road, just west of the Golden State (5) Freeway, the driver lost control of the vehicle. Right around 12:30 a.m., the vehicle crashed. The details surrounding the collision are still unknown, officers reported. Shortly after the collision, however, sparks appeared and the vehicle caught on fire. Within minutes the entire car was engulfed in angry flames.
The California Highway Patrol arrived at the scene and found the vehicle completely destroyed, engulfed in flames. The Los Angles Fire Department hurried to the scene and quickly extinguished the flames. Once the fire was put out, firefighters went to the charred and wet wreckage that was once a vehicle, hoping no one was inside. Sadly, they found three people who had been killed in the fiery accident. Another person had sustained serious injuries and was rushed to a local hospital to receive medical attention.
The driver of the vehicle, identified only as a woman, was obviously under the influence of drugs or alcohol, officers reported. She was arrested at the scene and faces several charges. Officers are still investigating this accident to try and understand what exactly happened to cause it.
