Upon further investigation, officers suspected the female driver of driving while under the influence. Paramedics took her to the hospital for treatment of serious injuries she sustained during the crash. One person in the other vehicle was also injured. They were transported to a local hospital with moderate, but non-life-threatening injuries and are expected to make a full recovery.
The damaged vehicles blocked the highway, forcing officers to close two northbound lanes. Officers called tow trucks to remove the badly damaged vehicles from the highway and crews had to clear the scene of debris and glass.
