Wrong-Way Collision Involving 4 vehicles On Highway 99, DUI Arrest

Pedestrian struck and injured in Fresno, DUI could be to blame

Sacramento, CA (July 30, 2023) A wrong-way collision occurred around 10:46 p.m. on Friday night on northbound Highway 99 in Sacramento, involving 4 vehicles. Several people were injured and one person was arrested for suspected DUI.

A 19-year-old male, driving a BMW, was traveling south (wrong way) on northbound highway 99, when he side-swiped the left side of a Toyota. A 20-year-old woman from Orangevale was behind the wheel. The impact from hitting the Toyota sent the BMW where it slammed into a 2020 Dodge, which damaged both vehicles. The driver of the Dodge was a 27-year-old male from Modesto.

After hitting the Dodge, the BMW burst into flames. At the same time, a 31-year-old woman from Modesto was driving a Lexus in the lane beside the Dodge when it was struck by the BMW, causing the Dodge to hit the Lexus.

The driver of the Dodge is in critical condition and the drivers of the Toyota and Lexus suffered minor injuries from the collision. The 19-year-old, who was driving the wrong-way on the highway, seemed impaired, according to CHP and was arrested for suspicion of DUI.
