Oceanside, CA (October 28, 2024) A man in his 30s died on Saturday night, following a wrong-way collision on State Route 76. The crash occurred in Oceanside, not far from Melrose Drive, just before 9:30 p.m., according to reports. The wrong-way driver had been drinking and was killed in the collision. 20-year-old Stephanie Zamora sustained critical injuries in this collision.
Stephanie Zamora, 20, from Oceanside, was traveling along eastbound State Route 76 in a white Honda Clarity, when she suddenly saw headlights barreling towards her. A man in his 30s was driving a tan Buick Century the wrong way and hit Zamora, head-on.
Emergency crews hurried to the scene and found the two vehicles completely destroyed in the middle of the highway. They rushed to the vehicles, knowing that there would be injuries following this crash. They found 20-year-old Zamora with critical injuries. She was rushed to Palomar Hospital in Escondido to receive emergency treatment.
The driver of the Buick was found with life-threatening injuries, officers said. Approximately 5 minutes later, he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. During the investigation, officers determined that the wrong-way driver who was killed in this collision, had been under the influence of drugs and/or alcohol at the time of the accident.
