Weldon, CA (October 9, 2023) 1 person is dead after a crash on State Route 178 that involved a deputy, according to the Kern County Sheriff’s Office. The crash happened at approximately 11:44 p.m. near Kelso Valley Road.
Authorities said a vehicle collided with a motorcycle and the motorcycle was split in half, following the crash. The rider was unresponsive and had two tourniquets, one on a leg and one on an arm. The occupant of the car was conscious and sustained minor injuries. They were pronounced dead at the scene.

Reports indicate a deputy was traveling east on State Route 178 at the time of the collision and was also involved. KCSO said the deputy was uninjured in the crash.
The cause and fault of this collision are still unknown and the California Highway Patrol are currently investigating.
