Northridge, CA (August 10, 2024) The community of Northridge was saddened as news spread of a hit-and-run that claimed a motorcyclist’s life. The tragedy occurred at Plummer Street and Tampa Avenue just after 10:00 p.m. on Friday, August 9th, 2024. The driver responsible fled the scene after hitting the 32-year-old rider, reports indicated.
Witnesses at the scene reported that the motorcyclist was heading east on Tampa Avenue, approaching the intersection of Plummer Street. Another vehicle was heading south on Plummer Street and entered the intersection at the same time as the motorcycle. The two vehicles collided at approximately 10:10 p.m., witnesses told police. The driver of the vehicle, identified only as a man, continued heading south, fleeing the scene, according to a Los Angeles Police Department spokesperson.
The Los Angeles Fire Department, as well as the LAPD, arrived at the scene and found the motorcyclist on the ground. Paramedics hurried to his side and began performing life-saving treatment, but unfortunately, he had succumbed to his injuries and nothing could be done. Sadly, he was pronounced dead at the scene by authorities.
Update: The victim has been identified as 32-year-old Erik Navarro of Arleta.
Officers gathered as much evidence at the scene as the could and took statements from witnesses. They are determined to find the responsible vehicle and, in doing so, find the driver and bring him to justice. The victim’s motorcycle was hauled from the scene in a dented and damaged heap. Crews had to clean up a small amount of debris that had been left behind, as well, officers reported. The Police Department’s West Traffic Division Team is leading this investigation, which remains ongoing.
