Merced County, CA (April 23, 2024) A shocking accident occurred on Interstate 5 in Merced County on April 7th. 36-year-old Ledontea Sellers was riding a motorcycle when he was hit by two tires that came off a trailer. The fatal accident occurred just before midnight, north of Canyon Road, officers said. Sadly, Sellers did not survive the accident.
Ledontea Sellers was riding a 2022 Harley Davidson motorcycle on Interstate 5 in Merced County. Sellers passed a slow-moving pickup truck that was pulling a box trailer in the no. 1 lane. As he passed, tow of the trailer’s tires came loose and flew off the trailer, hitting Sellers and his motorcycle. He was thrown from the bike and slammed into the roadway with a hard thud.
The California Highway Patrol arrived at the scene and found Sellers in bad shape, lying in the middle of the road. Officers rushed to began life-saving treatment on Sellers, but found that he had been killed in the collision. He was, sadly, pronounced dead at the scene. Officers called for a coroner to come to the scene and covered Sellers’ body with a tarp.
Investigators spoke with the driver of the pickup who was pulling the trailer. They are trying to determine why two wheels came loose at once and hit Sellers on the highway. The motorcycle had to be loaded onto a flatbed and removed from the scene, according to reports.
