Riverside, CA (May 3, 2024) A 23-year-old motorcyclist was hospitalized on Thursday, May 2nd, following a collision with a minivan in Riverside. It all happened at approximately 1:20 p.m. at the intersection of Grace Street and Victoria Avenue, according to Sgt. Emilio Angulo with the Riverside Police Department.
Initial reports indicated that the motorcyclist was riding a 2021 Harley Davidson motorcycle, heading west on Victoria Avenue. A 2003 Dodge Caravan was on Grace Street, driving south. Both vehicles approached the intersection right around 1:20 p.m., where they collided. The impact threw the rider from the motorcycle and they landed on the ground with immense force.
The Riverside Police Department and the Riverside County Fire Department paramedics hurried to the scene. They found the motorcyclist on the ground and the motorcycle dented and destroyed, on its side, several feet away. The minivan also sustained damage in the crash, officers said. Paramedics rushed to the motorcyclist’s side and found them in bad shape. They had sustained life-threatening injuries in the collision, according to Sgt. Emilio Angulo. The motorcyclist was transported to a local hospital for treatment, where they remain in critical condition.
The driver of the minivan sustained minor injuries in the accident. There is no word as to whether they were treated at the scene or if they were taken to a hospital. Their injuries were non-life-threatening, though.
Officers searched the scene for evidence and questioned witnesses. Once they finished, crews began cleaning the debris from the roadway and the motorcycle had to be hauled from the scene.
