When emergency crews arrived at the scene, they found Franklin with serious injuries and rushed him to a local hospital for treatment, authorities said. Family and friends didn’t find out about the accident until a few days after it happened. Franklin was in the hospital on life support, Franklin’s cousin, Michael Proctor shared. “He just needed machines to breathe, for brain function.” There was no hope of Franklin ever living any other way, so the family decided to disconnect the machines. “I’m pretty sure he wouldn’t want to live this way,” Proctor said.
Franklin’s family and friends held a car wash to raise money to help cover medical and funeral expenses for Franklin. They also created a GoFundMe page.
Police officers are still searching for the pickup involved in this fatal hit-and-run. The Los Angeles Police Department told the family they are hopeful that surveillance cameras on the bridge will help them find the pickup truck involved and, in turn, find the driver who is responsible for taking Nathan Franklin’s life on the 6th Street Bridge.
