Lakeside, CA (April 18, 2024) A deadly collision between a motorcycle and a pickup truck took place on Tuesday, April 16th, in Lakeside. The fatal collision took place on Winter Gardens Boulevard, near Lemon Crest Drive, just after 8:00 p.m. Sadly, the motorcyclist didn’t survive this accident.
Reports indicated that a man was riding a 2005 Kawasaki Ninja ZX-10R motorcycle south on Winter Gardens Boulevard. He was traveling in the No. 1 lane of the road at a high rate of speed. At the same time, a 2013 Ford F-150 pickup truck was turning onto the southbound lanes of the road from a public driveway, officers said. A 28-year-old man from Lakeside was behind the wheel as the vehicle turned into the No. 1 lane.
As the pickup pulled from the driveway onto the road, it pulled out directly in front of the motorcycle. The motorcyclist had no time to react and slammed into the back of the pickup truck. Following the collision, both the pickup truck and the motorcycle became engulfed in flames.
The California Highway Patrol arrived at the scene along with paramedics and found the motorcyclist on the ground with life-threatening injuries. The motorcyclist was rushed to UCSD Medical Center to receive treatment. However, his injuries were too severe and he succumbed to them. With heavy hearts, authorities pronounced him dead at the hospital.
Firefighters worked quickly to put out the flames as officers checked on the occupants of the pickup truck. The driver and passenger in the pickup refused medical attention, officers said.
Detectives gathered evidence and spoke with the occupants of the pickup truck. They are determined to learn what happened to cause this fatal collision in Lakeside. The pickup truck and the motorcycle had to be hauled from the scene and crews cleared the debris from the roadway.
