Rancho San Diego, CA (September 9, 2024) A beloved grandfather was tragically killed by a hit-and-run driver on Sunday, September 1. His name was Augestin Youhanna, and he was 81.
According to the San Diego County Medical Examiner, the victim was legally walking at the intersection near Jamacha Road and Brabham Street in El Cajon in the late morning that day. Suddenly, he was struck by a slow-moving sedan that fled the scene.
Thankfully, bystanders called for help, but when paramedics arrived, they found Youhanna with severe injuries. He was rushed to Sharp Memorial Hospital, where he remained until passing away on September 2 after slipping into a coma.
He is survived by many grieving family members. His son told NBC 7 San Diego News, “The driver, they stopped him. They said, ‘What did you do? You hit someone.’ And he blames my dad, and says he threw himself against my car.” According to witnesses, the driver drove away after this exchange.
