Rohnert Park, CA (May 4, 3034) A shocking incident unfolded in Rohnert Park on Friday morning, May 3rd, when a driver struck a child and then fled the scene. The accident, which left the boy with serious injuries, occurred at Hinebaugh Creek and Snyder Lane, right around 8:30 a.m. The driver of the vehicle was later located and arrested, according to police.
A white Mustang, driven by 33-year-old Cotati resident, Angel Antonio Martinez, was heading north along Snyder Lane on Friday morning. As he approached Rancho Cotate High School at 5450 Snyder Lane, he struck a child who was riding a scooter along the side of the road, reports indicated. However, the white Mustang failed to stop following the accident. Instead, Martinez hit the gas and fled the scene, leaving the injured child behind.
Officers received the call and hurried to the scene. They found the boy lying on the ground, frightened and injured, but alert. Paramedics evaluated the boy and determined that his injuries were non-life-threatening. He was taken to a local hospital, via ambulance, for treatment.
Witnesses in the area told police officers that a white Mustang hit the boy and then continued driving. One witness even took a video of the vehicle which included the license plate. Officers were able to contact the vehicle’s owner, who was a woman. She told officers that her boyfriend had her vehicle. Officers were able to locate the white Mustang and found Martinez as well. He was placed under arrest and booked for felony child endangerment, felony hit-and-run and for violating his probation for reckless driving.
