Costa Mesa, CA (February 16, 2024) It was early morning when 61-year-old Dolores Pliego was tragically killed by a vehicle in Costa Mesa. The devastating accident took place just after 6:00 a.m. at the intersection of Pinecreek Drive and Adams Avenue, officers said.
Dolores Pliego was walking on the morning of February 16th when she decided to cross the street at an intersection. The sun hadn’t come up yet and the streets of Costa Mesa were dark except for the glow of street lights. Pliego stepped off of the sidewalk and onto the roadway as she crossed the street. She was a few steps across when a vehicle approached her. Suddenly, Pliego was hit by the vehicle and knocked to the ground.

The Costa Mesa Fire & Rescue Department and the Costa Mesa Police Department arrived at the scene to find the woman on the ground. Paramedics rushed to give life-saving measures and quickly transported Pliego to a local hospital. Unfortunately, she succumbed to her life-threatening injuries and was pronounced dead at the hospital by medical personnel.
The Traffic Safety Bureau’s Major Accident Investigation Team is working on this case to determine what happened to cause this fatal accident. The driver of the vehicle involved remained at the scene and cooperated with police officers. Investigators said they do not believe speed was a factor.
