Encinitas Pedestrian Struck, Killed On I-5 By San Elijo Beach

Pedestrian struck and injured in Sacramento hit-and-run.

Encinitas, CA (July 23, 2024) A pedestrian was sadly killed yesterday, July 22, on the southbound side of Interstate 5 in Encinitas.

It happened at about 2:30 p.m. near San Elijo State Beach north of Birmingham Drive. California Highway Patrol was dispatched to the scene along with paramedics who tragically pronounced the victim dead.

Detailed information about the crash was not provided. It’s unclear what kind of vehicle was involved (or if more than one struck the pedestrian). It’s also unclear if the driver or drivers in question remained at the scene to cooperate with the investigation.

We also do not know yet who the victim is, other than that authorities believe they were homeless.
