Female Pedestrian Killed in Bakersfield Hit-and-Run

Bakersfield, CA (June 25, 2024)

A woman was struck by a vehicle on June 23, Sunday, at about 11:17 p.m. She was walking near Ogden Street and California Avenue in Bakersfield heading south. Apparently, she was crossing the westbound lanes of California Avenue when she was hit by a motorist.

The vehicle was going westbound when the crash happened. It was potentially moving at a high rate of speed, but officers are not yet certain. The motorist struck the woman between the number one lane and the number two lane, then drove away.

When officers and medics arrived, they found the pedestrian had life-threatening injuries. She was rushed to Kern Medical Hospital, but she tragically passed away.

Because the driver fled the scene, there are many unknown details about this terrible accident. Officers don’t know who the driver is, what kind of vehicle they were in, if drugs or alcohol were involved, or if the driver was speeding. California Highway Patrol is investigating and hopes to find the motorist as soon as possible. They request that anyone who has information contact CHP Bakersfield right away.
