Los Angeles, CA (August 21, 2024) Another hit-and-run was reported in the Los Angeles area on Friday night, August 18th, according to reports. A 43-year-old pedestrian was crossing the street outside of a designated crosswalk, when they were struck by a vehicle. Shockingly, the vehicle then fled the scene, leaving the victim with life-threatening injuries on the ground.
It happened at the intersection of Central Avenue and 88th Street at approximately 10:00 p.m. The pedestrian attempted to cross the street outside of a designated crosswalk, reports indicated. As they crossed, a vehicle approached and struck them. The impact sent the victim flying several feet before landing in the roadway. The driver of the vehicle then hit the gas and fled the scene, officers reported.
The Los Angeles Police Department arrived at the scene and hurried to the pedestrian, who was still lying on the ground. They quickly began life-saving measures on the pedestrian, but the victim’s injuries proved to be too severe. With heavy hearts, officers pronounced the 43-year-old pedestrian dead at the scene.
The victim has been identified as Latesha Washington.

The city of Los Angeles is offering a reward of up to $25,000 for anyone who has information that could lead to the suspects arrest. Officers with the LAPD want to remind drivers that they are legally obligated to stop following any vehicular accident. Fleeing the scene is illegal. The LAPD South Traffic Division is leading the investigation into this deadly hit-and-run.
