Salinas, CA (March 1, 2024) Blanco Road in Salinas was dark at 5:45 a.m. as a 54-year-old man rode his scooter. For reasons still unknown, the man fell off his scooter and was then hit by multiple vehicles that fled the scene, officers reported. Unfortunately, the man did not survive the traumatic accident. The incident sent a wave of shock and sadness through Salinas as the sun rose and residents heard the dreadful news.
The man was riding along Blanco Road when, according to the California Highway Patrol, he fell off his scooter. He landed on the roadway in the early morning darkness. Before the man could get out of the road, he was struck by a vehicle. The driver didn’t even slow down, but instead, continued driving away until he disappeared into the darkness. The injured man was then struck by another vehicle, officers said. The number of vehicles that struck the victim is unknown, however, the CHP reported that he was obviously hit multiple times.
Emergency crews arrived at the scene to find the man with traumatic injuries, lying on the road. They performed life-saving measures and carefully placed the victim in an ambulance. He was transported to a local hospital to receive treatment for life-threatening injuries, authorities said. Sadly, he did not survive and was pronounced dead at the hospital.
The California Highway Patrol Monterey Area Office is leading the investigation into this traumatic collision. Anyone with information is encouraged to contact the police as soon as possible.
