San Diego, CA (September 4, 2023) A man died on Sunday after being hit by a Coaster commuter train in San Diego. The San Diego Police Department said the man was still alive following the collision, but later died from his injuries.
San Diego Police Sgt. Jason King told City News Service that they received the report of a collision involving a pedestrian and a train around 3:25 p.m. on Sunday. The fatal accident occurred near the intersection of West Washington Street and Pacific Highway.

The train was traveling north when, for reasons unknown, a man stepped onto the tracks. The train hit the man and he survived the initial collision. King stated that emergency personnel rushed to give the man medical attention but his injuries were too severe. He died at the scene.
The Sheriff’s Transit Enforcement Unit investigated the collision and the Medical Examiner’s Office is working to identify the pedestrian who was killed.
