Victorville, CA (February 13, 2024) A cloud of sadness fell over Victorville last weekend as news of a pedestrian fatality spread through the town. 42-year-old Apple Valley resident, Michael Pont, was tragically killed while crossing a street on Friday night, officers said. This horrible accident took place on Amethyst Road right around 8:00 p.m.
Pont was crossing the street at the intersection of Amethyst Road and Ironstone Avenue when a 4-door Chevrolet sedan approached the intersection. Pont made it to the middle of the road when the vehicle came towards him. He had no time to get out of the way and was struck by the Chevy sedan. The force of the collision tossed Pont several feet from the vehicle, where he landed in the roadway.

The San Bernadino County Sheriff’s Department rushed to the scene and found Pont lying in the middle of the intersection with life-threatening injuries. Paramedics with the Victorville Fire Department hurried to perform life-saving measures on Pont, but sadly, there was nothing they could do. Michael Pont was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the SBC Sheriff’s Department.
The driver remained at the scene and cooperated with deputies as they investigated the accident. Authorities are still not sure what exactly caused this fatal accident, but they continue to investigate to find answers.
