Pedestrian, 58, Killed In San Diego Intersection

Pedestrian struck and injured by hit-and-run driver in Sherman Oaks.

San Diego, CA (September 20, 2024) A pedestrian was crossing the street in San Diego when they were struck and killed by a vehicle on Thursday afternoon, September 19th, 2024. The fatal accident occurred at the intersection of Avenida De La Fuente and Avenida Costa Este, in the Otay Border neighborhood.

It was just before 5:00 p.m. in the Otay Border neighborhood of San Diego, as a pedestrian began crossing the street. Initial reports indicated that the 58-year-old began crossing from west to east in an unmarked crosswalk. At the same time, a 2019 Toyota Tacoma, driven by a 38-year-old man, approached the intersection. The pickup truck made a left-hand turn, entering the intersection, officers reported. As he turned onto southbound Avenida Costa Este, he struck the pedestrian. The pedestrian was knocked to the house and the driver of the Toyota immediately stopped and waited for authorities.

The San Diego Police Department arrived at the scene and found the pedestrian on the ground. Unfortunately, they had succumbed to their injuries and were pronounced dead at the scene. Officers questioned the driver of the Toyota Tacoma and investigated the scene. They are working to determine what exactly happened at that San Diego intersection.
